Undeveloped Gift

I’ve always been told I’m intelligent
but no one taught me to use it.
As a result I often feel isolated
from the world around me.

It’s something a lot of other
“gifted” friends have complained about:
raw intelligence is a gift
but without transformation
it alienates those who have it

Because we see past the niceties
that hold the world together
and have no use for them.
We try to share our gift,
but come across as insulting
or know-it-alls
or talking down to people.

It hurts to try to hide
what I’ve always been told is a gift
because I never learned to use it
in a positive way.
